Notices for both the Degree and the Diploma Programmes for 2009 at Workers' College in Durban, South Africa have been sent out to Trade Unions and Community organizations.

DIPLOMA PROGRAMME : 2009

This serves as a notice to all interested organizations, office bearers, members and staff, that the application process for 2009 Diploma Programmes is now open.  The following Diplomas will be offered:

•    Labour Studies Diploma (LSD)
•    Labour Economics Diploma (LED)
•    Political and Social Development Diploma (PSDD)
•    Gender and Labour Studies Diploma (GLSD)
•    Recognition of Prior Learning Diploma (RPLD)

Each Diploma will be offered in four residential blocks of one week each.  The calendar for the programme which will outline the dates for residential blocks and examination dates will be issued immediately after the selection.  You will be required to arrange your paid time – off with your employer for all the blocks, revision and exams.  Attached to this notice is an application form that must be filled in and returned to the Workers’ College not later than the 07th November 2008.

PART-TIME DEGREE PROGRAMME (IWLP) : 2009

This serves as a notice to all interested organizations, office bearers, members and staff, that the application process for the Degree Programme for 2009 is now open.  

The requirements for the entry into this part-time Degree Programme are listed below.  The applicant:
•    Should have completed at least one Diploma with an average mark of 60% and above.
•    Should submit a duly completed application form and return it to the Workers’ College before the closing date stated below.  The application form is attached to this notice.
•    Should write and pass the selection test which is scheduled to take place on the 02nd December 2008.
•    Should be in a position to attend classes every Fridays and, or in block form when required.
•    Must pay a fee of R1000.00 for the year.


The last date of accepting the application forms is the 28th November 2008.
